In the last year’s Policy Address, the government proposed to ‘study on Tenancy Control of Sub-divided Units’ and ‘to provide cash allowance for eligible applicant households which have been queuing for public rental housing for over 3 years (Rental allowance)’. The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (the Council) has always been concerned about the housing problem of the grass-roots, and hopes to make feasible suggestions for alleviating the life pressure of grass-roots residents living in private housing.

In view of this, in order to promote the exchange of opinions on the above two policies in the sector, the Council would hold a roundtable meeting on ‘Rental Allowance and Tenancy Control of Sub-divided Units’ on December 16. The meeting would be divided into two sections. The first section is about the rental allowance scheme to be implemented by the government in the middle of next year. The second session is to understand the main concerns and recommendations about Tenancy Control of the sector. Details of the meeting are as follows:
