ABOUT 5,000 PEOPLE JOIN HSBC HK COMMUNITY FESTIVAL
Celebrate Hong Kong’s Reopening by Sharing Positive Energy
As part of the HSBC Hong Kong Community Partnership Programme 2022, the HSBC Hong Kong Community Festival 2022 was held at the Chater Road Pedestrian Precinct in Central today. Close to 5,000 people are expected to have participated at one of the largest community carnivals in town.
K K Chan, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Peter WONG, Chairman, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, and The Hongkong Bank Foundation, Bernard CHAN, Chairperson, The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS), David LIAO, Co-Chief Executive, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, CHUA Hoi Wai, Chief Executive, The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, and Luanne LIM, Chief Executive, Hong Kong, HSBC, officiated today’s kick-off ceremony at the HSBC Main Building.
Speaking at the ceremony, Peter WONG, said, “The HSBC Hong Kong Community Festival has brought together educational activities for the public and generates positive energy to the society. Hong Kong has experienced the most serious wave of COVID-19 earlier this year but by working together, we have got through it. The Festival aims at building post-pandemic resilience and inspiring district-based community initiatives to foster a more inclusive society. So it is happening in just the right time as we celebrate Hong Kong’s reopening. I am proud to see The Hongkong Bank Foundation has succeeded in promoting cross-sector collaboration to address social needs.”
HSBC also invited representatives from NGO partners to share their experiences and takeaways throughout the collaboration with public and private sectors.
In partnership with HKCSS, the HSBC Hong Kong Community Partnership Programme 2022 benefits more than 340,000 people including youth, elderly and other vulnerable communities across Hong Kong.
CHUA Hoi-Wai, Chief Executive, The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, said, “The pandemic has adversely affected many families and vulnerable groups, who needed support desperately on both daily life as well as physical and mental wellbeing. We are most grateful for the continuous support of ‘HSBC Hong Kong Community Partnership Programme’ to NGOs in the 18 districts, addressing urgent needs of the underprivileged. The 68 granted innovative projects will meet different social needs and reconnect social groups to build an inclusive and cohesive community. Through this meaningful Programme, we will bring elation and aspiration to Hong Kong people and contribute to the strength and resilience of the society. ”
Five outstanding projects out of the 68 community projects participated and the most outstanding project of the Smart Community Hackathon are recognised in the ceremony.
Along with other projects, the winning teams showcased their innovative ideas at the Festival. For example, winner of the Outstanding Community Engagement Award organised the “Marine Litter Competition” by combining recycling education with sports-related mini games, designed to educate the community about ocean waste.

The HSBC Hong Kong Community Partnership Programme was launched in 2012 to inspire collaborative projects across Hong Kong’s 18 districts. Over the years, the Foundation has contributed HKD252 million to support close to 7 million beneficiaries through more than 1,400 projects.
Established in 1981, the Foundation has supported more than 10,000 projects and has grown to become one of the largest charitable foundations in Hong Kong’s business community.

Since its launch in 2012, the HSBC Hong Kong Community Partnership Programme (CPP) has been supported by the Home Affairs Department, the Social Welfare Department and The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS).
